Welcome to ChordsUMC!

I started ChordsUMC to fill the void of chords written for the United Methodist Hymnal. A few songs in the hymnal are marked with chords, but most are not, and the few that are often have chords in very awkward keys (at least for a standard tuning guitar). Note that I am writing these chords with a 1989 United Methodist Hymnal (the latest at this writing). I am only including one verse of lyrics with each hymn; mark them into your hymnal and you’ll have them beautifully lined up with all of the words.

Note that the chords listed on this front page are only the most recently posted few chords. There are many more available through the search box at right. Also, note that you can click on a song title (the big one) to be taken to a page that shows only that song.

If you don’t find what you’re looking for with the search box, look at the comments on the Submit Chords page to see if someone has put up chords and I haven’t gotten around to putting them into a full-fledged post.

If you have written chords for a hymn that I don’t have chords for, drop a comment on this page, and I may post them. If you have alternate chords for a song I have posted, drop a comment on that post. By doing this, you are releasing your chords into the public domain. I will also accept chords for the Faith We Sing if they differ significantly from those in the Faith We Sing Guitar Edition. If you don’t have a guitar edition, send the chords anyways – I may post them. If you wish to be credited, please leave a name, username, etc. in your comment – otherwise you will be forever known as ‘Anonymous.’

If you do not have the expertise to write chords, but need chords for a song in the hymnal, drop a comment here.

If you have suggestions or technical problems concerning the site itself, drop a comment here.

Every so often, I post a few more songs here. Meantime, you can subscribe to ChordsUMC with your favorite RSS or Atom client to be notified when I post a new song. You can also opt to see only when I post new chords (and not see posts about the site itself) by subscribing to this feed.

Feel free to use these chords I post in any way you like – I grant permission for you to do anything you like with them. If you figure out a way to take over the world with the chords, so be it. Conversely, I am not responsible for anything that happens as a result of using these chords. In other words, if you break your fingernail playing that Cm#7 chord, it is entirely your fault.

  1. Hi Chris!
Thanks so much for starting this site. I want to join our music program at Mt. Carmel UMC here in Clarksville, Tn, but I don’t sight read (well, it takes me too long to translate sheet music to guitar chords)
This will help me tremendously. I will return the favor by posting what I can.
    Thanks!

  2. Hi
Thank you sooooo much for this site.
It has been a great help to me and it
    surely will continue to be.
I have only been playing guitar for a short time.
I have recently started playing in my
church but am not familiar with many
    of these hymns.
God Bless you for starting this!!
