Chris,
I am part of the worship team at St. Francisville UMC and was delighted to ‘stumble’ across this site. I am using your great cutline theme for my personal blog as well as for the church web site at http://www.webbd.net/sfumc.
I have a huge collection of songs and chords and will be visiting this site often. Thanks so much for this ministry.
Be Blessed,
Ron McLemore
I’m so glad you find the site useful! I hope you’ll consider posting some of your chords here.
Great additions! Thanks!
I am so glad to find this sight. Do you know if they make a United Methodist Hymnal with chords.
To my knowledge, there is no hymnal with chords – that’s why I started this. There is a Faith We Sing guitar edition.
Sorry should have included this comment with the last. Some of your chorded songs do not match the key in my hymn book. Can I request certain keys to have songs chorded in?
Thanks, Marylou
The chords match the keys in the 1989 United Methodist Hymnal (some of the songs require a capo to transpose into the key in the UMH). If you need another key, I would recommend using one of the transposition charts available at the Resources page; you might have to tweak the chords slightly after transposing to make it easier to play – you’ll get the hang of it pretty fast.
I was wondering if you intend to write tablature for some of the music. It’s great you are doing this & God bless you for it. We’re trying to bring guitar into our services, but I am having trouble initially finding the guitar music, especially in finding good tablature. Tablature might allow us to play in classical style with the intricacy of piano music. The ultimate would be tablature with downloadable recording. I guess that would have to bear some expense though?
I hadn’t planned on writing tabs for any of the hymns, but I guess I could… to be quite frank, I’m not that good a guitarist and can’t really play very well from tab. I generally strum the rhythm, adding improvised embellishments every so often, sometimes even switching to play the melody. If you (or anyone else) would like to write tab, though, I’d be happy to post it! I might even be able to figure out a way to link in MIDI files.
Good luck with your music!
P.S. The (free) guitar tab editor I use is TuxGuitar (tuxguitar.com.ar). I also remember one of my friends mentioning Power Tab.
I think it would be very helpful to have the hymns indexed by tune name.
You’re right. For now, you can use either the index in the back of the hymnal or the digital version.
Lord, Whose Love Through Humble Service is one that isn’t listed. We’re singing it this week.
Pretty sure I won’t be able to get to it before Sunday, but try a Google search… you’ll probably find something close enough.

Thanks for doing this. It’s a great help. FYI – the GBOD has leadsheets that are downloadable in PDF format for 177 hymns. Also, if you are interested I have a spreadsheet of the hymns you have posted so far with their Tune Names and also other hymns of the same Tune Name. I’ll be happy to send it along, if you wish.
